Welcome to the report for the last meeting of the club year. Fear not we are back in September for the first meet of our third year!
As the year winds its way towards the holiday season, so the ability to attend truck meets reduces, accordingly we have a break. It helps us all recharge our batteries, do some servicing and get ourselves ready for the next year.
We expect fewer drivers at this time of year, but we still had 35. Of those 35 6 were Under 16's which is really good for the hobby. Surprisingly we are getting an increasing number of spectators, whether as supporters of drivers or just for a day out and a chat, all are welcome. This month we had 12 spectators, but our peak was 19. (yes we do collect Statistics ;) ). On top of this we have the support staff who come along month after month to help with logistics, field questions, make the tea and provide the biscuits, do the background planning and last but not least take your hard-arned pennies. Our wholehearted thanks go out to them, without them it would be much harder.
Thankfully over time we are gradually getting a fair few people who support us in set up and break down. This month we had just over 100 metres of roadway and 14 yards allocated. It is noticeable that more people are building and using yards and that can only be good for the hobby. This month we had a recovery yard, several building style yards, and a few digging/bulk material handling yards, a logging yard and more. If you had the choice, what sort of yard would you have?
35 drivers but a fair few more trucks! It is also very noticeable that the standard of the trucks built by experienced builders is improving, I think that is driven by the environment, the range of trucks, the support, and the ability to ask questions about them. Maybe the canteen where you can sit comfortably and sample the free tea/coffee and biscuits whilst you have a chat. We are a friendly lot and sharing only goes to help everyone and the hobby. On that note, if you have any ideas for additional bits then please come and share them.
