It seems a long time since we first started this enterprise, It should have been meeting 9 of 10 but if you remember our 3rd intended meeting had to be cancelled as the hall had been double booked. Since then we and a team of supporters have been working hard at improving the layout and the environment.

Devon Truck Show

Anyway, here we are at meeting 8 which was delayed as two weeks before we were at Devon Truck Show, that was a challenge and not only for us! The show was at a new venue at Honiton Show Ground, so the organisers were learning and, as it was the clubs first big show, so were we. To cut a long story short it was a great show for us. Set up was on Friday and went more smoothly than we could expect. We had to use rubber track as hardboard would just slip on the provided base. Buzz trucking supported us by bringing elements of their track as well. All I can say is that it was extremely enjoyable, and I spent most of two days digging. I'm sorry to say no pictures as I only took a couple.

On a final note, one of our clubs stated aims is to support charities as, when and where we can. Last year one of the organisers of the Devon Truck Show lost a son to suicide. It seemed right that we should lend our support to Suicide Prevention Bristol. Accordingly, we have donated the £250 fees from Devon Truck Show attendance to them. They have indicated that those funds will keep them afloat and enable them to continue their work for some while.

May Meeting

Meeting no 8, delayed a week as we needed to recover! We had not expected it to be quite as busy as there were several truck meets through this weekend. How wrong can you be? We had 44 drivers arrive Including Juniors and visitors from across the country including from Vale and Swindon Clubs. It was great to see them all and we hope they will be back. It seemed very busy early on and went a little quiet around 2:30 (something to do with a football match I think). Another different layout and more new and old trucks running around it. It was nice just to watch and see all the people who come and make this a great day. I still have to pinch myself to see what has been achieved. My fellow directors will agree that my mind has been in a bit of a fog for the last few days and I honestly cannot remember much of the day except for leaving the pump on on my excavator and the battery running out! I do know that, once again, there were some really lovely trucks on the circuit.

The pictures:

I find it extremely difficult to see in my mind what a particular effect will look like on a truck, and it never ceases to amaze me, how a couple of simple lines make such a startling difference to what are, essentially, the same trucks. John B has been at it again and his Gypsy Caravan and truck were stunning, did you see the interior of the Caravan? John is the guy that created the wagon that sits proudly on our refreshment counter - another stunning example of his work.
